Nextedy Product Installation & Setup Guide

Modified on Mon, 20 Jul at 12:35 PM

Overview

This guide explains how to install, license, and set up any Nextedy product for Polarion ALM.

Although each product includes product-specific documentation, the installation process is the same for all of them.

It is intended for Polarion administrators responsible for deploying extensions on the server.

After completing this guide, you will have the plugin installed, licensed, and ready for use—either in a new demo project or integrated into an existing project.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Installation

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure the following:

Supported Environment

  • Polarion ALM (server or cluster) — supported versions as described: What Polarion versions do you support?

  • Access to the Polarion server file system (ssh, remote desktop)

  • Ability to restart Polarion services (admin rights required)

Required Files

  • The plugin installation package:

    nextedy_PRODUCTNAME.zip

    (Download link provided via email)

  • A valid license file:

    PRODUCTNAME_lic.json

    (Trial or production)

Install Guide

  1. Download the product  distribution package

  2. Unpack distribution file
Unpack / Unzip the downloaded nextedy_PRODUCTNAME.zip

  3. Copy 'com.nextedy.polarion.PRODUCTNAME' folder into 'POLARION_INSTALL_LOCATION/polarion/extension' folder.

  4. Apply the license
If you already have a production license, please copy the 'PRODUCTNAME_lic.json' file to '[POLARION_INSTALL]/polarion/license'

  5. Delete '[POLARION_INSTALL]/data/workspace/.config'
    and '[POLARION_INSTALL]/data/workspace/.metadata'
Make sure you perform this step also when updating the Nextedy plugins.
.config file only contains cached plugin data, and does NOT affect Polarion performance.
Deleting it is recommended by Polarion support when installing and updating plugins.

  6. Restart the Polarion server

Validate Installation

  1. Log in to Polarion

  2. Go to:

    Administration → Nextedy PRODUCTNAME

  3. Confirm:

    • The plugin appears in the left menu

    • The Setup page opens when you click on it.

    • The license is recognized

Setup After Installation

The installation does not change any of the existing Polarion projects, so the Nextedy product is not used anywhere. To set up any Nextedy product, you may decide to install a demo project or set up the product in an existing project.

Option A — Create a New Project  from Demo Template (Recommended for First-Time Users)

By completing this action, you'll be able to create new projects with the demo version of the Nextedy product in a few clicks.

First of all, it is needed to install the demo template.

To do so, follow these steps:

  • Once your Polarion server is started
  • Open Polarion Administration
  • Navigate to Nextedy PRODUCTNAME > Setup
  • Locate Demo Project Template - Install Demo Template
  • Wait for the installation procedure to finish

Once the template is installed, you may create a demo project from it

The template name includes Nextedy product name.

In the same location in the Polarion administration - Nextedy PRODUCTNAME - Setup:

  • Start the action: Create New Project and follow the instructions under it
  • Or create a new project from the Polarion interface, and follow the same instructions.

Option B — Set Up in an Existing Project

The setup procedure of the Nextedy product might be a bit different from product to product. The detailed instructions on how to do so are specified in our documentation, which you can see linked under:

  • "Polarion Administration" -  "Nextedy PRODUCTNAME -  Setup - Set up Nextedy PRODUCTNAME in Existing Projects
